Most forklift sites show a "request shipping quote" button and email you a number 24 hours later. We don't — because R+L's rate-quote API is wired directly into our storefront. Here's exactly what runs every time you see a price.

Live rate-quote API on every product page

Every Noblelift forklift, pallet jack, and stacker page hits the R+L `RateQuote` REST endpoint (api.rlc.com) in real time. Customers enter a ZIP, we pass the nearest stocking-warehouse origin, NMFC freight class, weight, and dimensions — and get back live Standard, Guaranteed, GS-AM, and GS-HW service levels with full accessorial breakdowns.

No estimates. No "shipping calculated later." The price you see at checkout is the actual rate R+L quoted us.

Origin-ZIP routing across 7 stocking warehouses

Our shipping engine reads `Product.stockByLocation` from the live-inventory feed and picks the closest warehouse with stock. R+L's rate API is then called with that origin ZIP — so customers never overpay for cross-country freight when the unit is sitting 200 miles away.

Live shipment tracking via PRO #

After dispatch, customers track the shipment with the R+L PRO number. Our tracking endpoint hits R+L's `ActivityHistory` + `ProTracing` APIs and renders a normalized 6-step status flow: Created → Picked Up → In Transit → Out for Delivery → Delivered (with Exception handling for damage / refused / re-routed).

Results cached for 2 minutes to avoid API rate limits without making the customer wait.

Freight-damage claims, built into the storefront

If freight arrives damaged, customers don't need to call R+L. The `FreightDamageForm` on the website captures PRO #, photos, damage description, and BOL data — we file the OS&D claim with R+L on the customer's behalf and track it to resolution.

How a live freight quote is generated

From the moment you type your ZIP code to the moment a price appears, here's the 4-step flow:

    Customer enters delivery ZIP

    On any PDP, cart, or quote page. ZIP is validated and geocoded.

  2. 2

    Engine picks the nearest stocking warehouse

    Reads `stockByLocation` for each line item, then resolves via `lib/shipping-origin-resolver.ts` using the 3-digit ZIP centroid + warehouse coverage map.

  3. 3

    R+L `RateQuote` API is called

    Origin ZIP, destination ZIP, NMFC freight class (from `lib/freight-class.ts`), weight, and crated dimensions are passed. Liftgate / residential / inside-delivery flags applied if requested.

  4. 4

    Live rate returned to customer

    Standard + Guaranteed + GS-AM + GS-HW service levels with full charge breakdown (gross, discount, fuel surcharge, accessorials, net). Cached for 15 minutes on identical inputs.

Frequently asked questions about R+L shipping

How fast will my forklift arrive?
Typical transit is 3–5 business days from the nearest stocking warehouse. East-coast-to-west-coast lanes are 4–6 days. R+L's transit-time API gives a specific delivery-date estimate at quote time — and you can upgrade to Guaranteed Service for a fixed delivery window.
What if my forklift arrives damaged?
Note the damage on the R+L delivery receipt before signing, take photos, and submit our online freight-damage claim form with your PRO number. We file the OS&D claim with R+L on your behalf and arrange replacement or repair. Always inspect the unit before the driver leaves.
Do I need a loading dock to receive a forklift?
No. Select "Liftgate Delivery" at quote — R+L's level-ride liftgate lowers the palletized unit to ground level safely. Liftgate is included free on many of our lanes through R+L; otherwise it's a flat ~$145 accessorial that's shown live at quote.
Can R+L deliver to a residential address?
Yes — add the "Residential Delivery" flag at quote (~$112). The R+L terminal will call ahead to schedule a delivery window. Residential deliveries almost always require liftgate service as well.
How do I track my shipment?
Once we dispatch, you receive a PRO number by email. Enter it on the tracking page (or click the link in the email) and our system queries R+L's ActivityHistory API in real time — showing pickup, terminal scans, out-for-delivery, and delivery confirmation.
What is freight class and why does it matter?
Freight class (NMFC) determines the base LTL rate. Forklifts are typically Class 85 (dense, palletized, low-damage-risk). Our system auto-calculates the correct class from each product's weight + crated dimensions — you never have to look it up. Wrong class = surprise reclass fee, which we avoid.
Does R+L ship internationally?
R+L's direct LTL network covers the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and many Caribbean Islands. For Mexico we use R+L's truckload partner network. International ocean / air freight is quoted separately on request.
Can I pick the unit up from the warehouse instead?
Yes — will-call pickup is available at any of our 7 stocking warehouses. Request "Will-Call" at quote and we'll skip the freight charge entirely. You'll receive a pickup appointment with the warehouse contact and BOL.
